A student who attends Corinth High School in Corinth, Mississippi was killed Monday morning in a car accident, according to the school’s principal.
The student has been identified by the school as Callie Pounders.
Principal John Barnett made a Facebook post offering counseling services in the commons for students and staff for the remainder of the week.
“It is with great sadness that I inform you that one of our students, Callie Pounders, was killed this morning in a car accident. We are heartbroken by this loss, and we grieve with the student’s family and friends.”
“We will have counselors available in the Commons to help our students and staff today and the remainder of the week. In times like these, we must continue to come together and support each other as the Corinth community. At this time, we are respecting the family’s privacy and their time to grieve. If there is something we can do to assist the family as a community, we will communicate that information to you.”
“We are deeply saddened by this loss and will make every effort to continue to look after and care for one another.”
Pounders was a star softball player who helped CHS to a 24-6 record last season along with a state championship. Back in May, she threw her 200th strikeout in the 2024 season.
She also had a scholarship offer to Northwest Mississippi Community College.
