Several Club Officials have joined calls for the 2019/2020 GHPL season to be cancelled.
With the ban on social gatherings and sports still in full effect until July 31, the GFA is under more pressure to make a decision regarding the future of the suspended 2019/2020 GHPL season. (Ghana Premier League).
Calls for the season to be annulled began in March, few weeks after the ban was placed and the league suspended, with Veteran sports administrator and Owner of King Faisal Babies, Alhaji Abdul Karim Grunsah leading the calls.
At the time, it was deemed a premature suggestion. However, according to Ghanasoccernet.com, it looks like more clubs have bought into this idea as the most feasible way forward.
Now, Abdul Salam Yakubu of New Edubiase FC and Nana Kwesi Darlington of Bechem United have added their voices to the calls for the season to be annulled.
Speaking to the press, the Bechem United official said;
After listening to the President of Ghana, I have lost hope that the suspended league season will resume. The next briefing will be on July 31 and should we be allowed to play football, clubs will need weeks to go back to the field which takes us to August. I have lost hope and don’t think the league will continue am sure it will be cancelled”,
Abdul Salam Yakubu also added his voice to the cancellation of the current 2019/2020 GHPL season saying, “I don’t know why the Ghana FA president and his executives are still there waiting. There is no way we can continue with this league. There is no time for us to play this league if we want to synchronize with the European calendar. We should just cancel the league so clubs can plan and start preparing ahead of the new season”
The GFA have until June 30 to make a decision to the Confederation of African Football on the plans for the 2019/2020 GHPL season
