Former Black Stars Captain, Charles Kwabla Akunnor, popularly known as CK Akunnor is set to take over as the next Black Stars Coach.
Akunnor has formerly served as coach of Sekondi XI Wise, Dreams FC, Ashantigold football club, Accra Hearts of Oak and recently, Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
His record at Kotoko is commendable as he is the only coach to lead Kotoko into the moneg zone of the CAF Confederations Cup in the last 5 years.
He however fell short in the last 2 games of the group stage as Kotoko failed to progress to the next stage of the competition.
He then guided Kotoko to victory in the 2018/2019 Normalisation Commitee Special Competition, defeating high flying Karela United (1-1) 4-1on penalties. Before that, his Kotoko side had dispatched Accra Hearts Of Oak in the semi final of the competition.
Akunnor left Kotoko surprisingly after the competition and was later appointed as deputy coach of the black stars to assist Coach Kwasi Appiah.
He takes over a Black Stars team in transition with demands of the fans still at an all time high. His immediate target will be to qualify Ghana to the AFCON 2021 and the 2022 world cup in Qatar.
He will be assisted by David Duncan and George Boateng.
