A man has been charged with murder after a fatal shooting in Greenwood County. Deputies from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a shooting at 2:20 a.m. on Highway 72/221 East.
When deputies arrived, they found a crowd surrounding an unresponsive man. EMS transported the victim, identified as 47-year-old Samuel Raymond Wright, to Self Regional Healthcare.
He succumbed to his injuries during surgery at 4:43 a.m., according to the Greenwood County coroner.
Investigators revealed that Wright had been involved in an argument with 23-year-old Bryson Thomas Long before the shooting occurred.
After the gunfire, Long fled the scene but was later located in nearby woods.
Witnesses identified him as the shooter, deputies said.
Long has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He is currently being held at the Greenwood County Detention Center, where he was denied bond.
