A man who tried to open fire outside a church during Sunday service in Wayne, Michigan, has been identified as 31-year-old Brian Browning, a White male.
The terrifying incident happened at CrossPointe Community Church, a Detroit suburb, while about 150 people, including many children, were gathered inside.
Browning showed up with a gun and started shooting outside the church building. However, he never made it inside.
Thanks to the brave actions of a church deacon and a security guard, the attack was stopped before it turned deadly.
“He was coming in… and one of our members ran him over with a truck,” said Pastor Bobby Kelly Jr.
“That gave our security time to take him down before police arrived.”
Browning was shot and killed by the church’s armed security officer shortly after being hit by the deacon’s Ford F-150 truck.
One person—believed to be the security guard—was injured during the incident but is expected to recover.
Footage from the livestream shows churchgoers panicking and being guided to safety as shots rang out outside.
“Everybody to the back!” one church leader can be heard yelling in the video.
Authorities have not revealed Browning’s motive. The pastor confirmed that he was not a member of the church.
The Wayne Police Department, along with multiple agencies, is still investigating the shooting. A full report is expected later today.
