A 48-year-old border patrol agent shot and killed his ex-wife and then himself Sunday during a horrific case of domestic violence.
According to Police Chief John Barber, Michael Settle shot and killed his ex-wife, 48-year-old Kerri Settle, following an argument that occurred sometime around 10 p.m. at 10 Sailors Cove.
“He came over and there was a confrontation that occurred at the house,” Barber said. “She tried to lock herself in the bedroom. She exited the house where she tried to get away.”
Michael Settle then shot and killed her in the front yard before shooting and killing himself, Barber said.
The couple, Barber said, had been divorced since January. Kerri Settle was a career educator and former assistant principal within the Mobile County Public School System.
“We don’t know what snapped on him last night,” Barber said, indicating there had been no prior calls of police assistance at the house involving the Michael or Kerri Settle.
However, a relative of Kerri Settles revealed that police went to the home on at least one previous occasion because of Michael Settles’ “outbursts” and that Kerri Settles’ mother accompanied Kerri to the police department “for a similar reason.”
