The Black Stars of Ghana defeated Sao Tome and Principe in their second AFCON qualifier to make it two wins out of two.
Playing on an artificial turf, the Stars found it difficult to adapt to the pitch and were unable to play their usual free flowing football.
The only opening in the first half fell to Jordan Ayew, who failed to capitalise on a mistake by the Sao Tome goalkeeper.
Despite the Stars being in control, they found clear cut chances a difficult thing to come by.
The second half began in similar fashion but the Stars got a break early in the half after Emmanuel Boateng was brought down in the box for a Ghana penalty. Jordan Ayew stepped up and duly converted the resulting spot kick.
Ghana held on to the lead but couldn’t add to the tally despite having 80% of possession. At the end, they took all 3 maximum points away from home.
It’s a good start to the Black Stars’ qualifying series as the maintain their 100% start. They face Sudan next in the qualification campaign.
