The Normalisation committee of the Ghana football association have announced the temporary closure of the Berekum Golden City park.
This to allow investigations into the violent incidents that occurred in the Stadium shortly before the home team, Berekum Chelsea faced Kumasi Asante Kotoko in their Matchday 8 clash of the normalisation committee special competition.
The incidents led to two Kotoko officials,including policy analyst, Dr. Amo Sarpong, needing to be rushed to the hospital after sustaining severe wounds.
In a press release signed by the general secretary, Mr. Alex Asante, the committee said,
“The Normalization Committee of the Ghana Football Association has ordered a TEMPORARY BAN on Berekum Chelsea FC from using the Berekum Golden City Park as its home venue with immediate effect.”
“This decision has become necessary due to the unfortunate incident that occurred during Match Day Eight between Berekum Chelsea FC and Asante Kotoko SC played on Sunday, 28th April, 2019.”
“This decision is in accordance with Article 15(2) of the GFA General Regulations which states that “the GFA may order the closure of any league centre where the safety of clubs, Match Officials or Spectators cannot be guaranteed”.”
“By a letter sent to the Club on Monday April 29, the NC Special Competition Committee will determine the venue for Berekum Chelsea FC’s subsequent home matches in accordance with the provision of Article 15(3) of the GFA General Regulations.”
“This order is however without prejudice to the determination of the case pending before the Disciplinary Committee.”
“Meanwhile, the Disciplinary Committee has been charged to hear the case in accordance with the GFA Regulations.”
Berekum Chelsea, however have accepted the charge and have stated via their social media pages that a new venue for their home games will be announced shortly.
