The Office of the Vice President has cleared the air regarding a purported first wife, Ramatu, whose pictures are making rounds on social media.
This was fuelled by the Minority Members of Parliament last Tuesday after the State of the Nation Address was delivered.
When the Second Lady, Samira, was introduced, the Minority MPs shouted ‘We want Ramatu’.
This received a spontaneous response from the Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford.
“I don’t know which of you has a girlfriend called Ramatu but we don’t have any dignitary here called Ramatu.”
But Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s office has taken exception to the “propaganda and deliberate falsehood”.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Vice-President has only one wife, his dear Samira Bawumia and they have been married for 17 years even though his religion permits him to marry up to four wives,” said a press release issued by the Spokesperson of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Gideon Boako, on Friday, March 12.
It noted that Vice President Dr Bawumia has never met or seen the purported Ramatu let alone taken her as a wife.
“She is a figment of the imagination of people trying hard to tarnish the image of the Vice-President for their own purposes.”
It asked the public to ignore the reports.
