Barcelona have parted ways with manager Ernesto Valverde after two and half years in charge of the catalan club with the club still top of La Liga mid season.
The spaniard, who is also a former Barcelona player himself repaced Luis Enrique in the summer of 2017 and has steered the catalam ship appreciably well, winning the spanish La Liga title twice, losing only one game in his debut season.
However, the performance of the club in the UEFA Champions League has left a lot to be desired as Barcelona have exited the last two editions of the competition in rather embarrassing fashion to Roma in 2018 quarter final and Liverpool in May 2019.
Both ties had Barcelona taking a three goal lead into the second leg but the catalan giants capitulated and succumbed to their opponents.
This has led to calls for his sack with the fabs expressing their doubts on whether he is indeed the man to lead them to another Champions league triumph.
Defeat to Atletico Madrid in the spanish supercopa semi final was the final straw as the decision was taken to terminate his contract.
He will be replaced by Quique Setien.
