A shocking incident occurred Saturday night at the Applebee’s on West Main Street.
Police say 32-year-old Ashley Gearhart, a Roanoke resident, was killed when her boyfriend, Jeremy Christopher Williams, ran her over with his truck following an argument.
Witnesses reported the couple had been dining at Applebee’s when they started arguing. Ashley walked out of the restaurant, and Jeremy followed, getting into his truck.
Moments later, onlookers say Ashley was walking toward the vehicle when Jeremy drove straight at her at full speed, striking her fatally.
Emergency services arrived at the scene around 8:36 p.m. Responders found Ashley with life-threatening injuries.
Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say Jeremy Williams, 30, did not attempt to flee and was arrested on the spot. He is currently in custody at the Salem-Roanoke County Jail, charged with second-degree murder. No bond has been set.
The Salem Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances of this tragic event.
