Family of 3, including child, found dead in Savannah home after suspected carbon monoxide poisoning

41-year-old Arbelio Reyes, 39-year-old Febiola Setina and 13-year-old Oswaldo Reyes

Two adults and a child were found dead inside a home in Savannah, according to the Chatham County Coroner’s Office.

The family of three died from possible carbon monoxide poisoning, apparently caused by a gas generator that was inside the home.

The victims have been identified as Arbelio Reyes, 41 years old; Febiola Setina, 39 years old; and their son Oswaldo Reyes, 13 years old.

The tragedy struck as the city and surrounding areas continued to face widespread power outages, a result of Hurricane Helene’s passage. Due to these outages, the family had been using a portable generator inside their home on Blossom Drive, where they were found lifeless on Tuesday.

Authorities reiterate the importance of using generators safely and in well-ventilated areas, as carbon monoxide, a colorless and toilet gas, can be fatal if inhaled in large quantities.

The three family members were pronounced dead at the home, marking another grim reminder of the dangers associated with using generators during climate emergencies like Helene’s.
