Angelina Gonzalez, a student with the Azusa High School in Azusa, California, has been reported dead by school authorities.

A statement from the Azusa Unified School District announced the sad news.

“With profound sadness, we share the tragic passing of Angelina Gonzales, a 12th-grade student at Azusa High School and a cherished member of our school community. Angelina was an exceptional young woman whose talents and energy touched the lives of so many around her,” the statement read.

The deceased was a dedicated member of the school’s cheer squad, the statement continued, adding that she was also an extraordinary artist who won 1st place in the Congressional Art Competition in June. In 2022, Angelina won the Judge’s Choice Award.

The school expressed condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.

“Our hearts go out to Angelina’s family and friends… Let’s honor Angelina’s memory by holding her family in our thoughts and embracing one another with care and compassion,” the statement concluded.

Gonzales, 17, was stabbed to death in Azusa on Friday night, Dec. 20. An 18-year-old boy was arrested for the crime.

Azusa Police Department were called to the 300 block of North Soldano Avenue, near Third Street and west of the Azusa High School West Campus around 10 p.m. Friday in response to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.

They located the victim, who was suffering from stab wounds.

She was transported to a hospital, where she was declared dead.

The suspect was known to Gonzales and it’s currently not clear exactly the type of relationship they had.
