The Missouri City Police Department have reported that two individuals lost their lives in a car accident involving one of their officers on Thursday night.
The victims were identified by the Texas Department of Public Safety as Angela Stewart, aged 53, and her son Mason, aged 16, who was behind the wheel of their car when the crash occurred.
A man who said he was the husband and father of the victims arrived at the scene Friday morning and approached KHOU 11’s reporter Stephanie Whitfield and provided photos of the victims.
Heartbroken, he recounted how his wife and son had left for a shopping trip and never returned.
Worried, he used their mobile devices to track their location, which led him to the devastating crash site.
“I was just tracking my son’s phone. I checked to see why they were gone so long,” the man said.
He also said his son had just celebrated a birthday.
This happened at 8:45 p.m. on Cartwright Road near Texas Parkway. The crash happened when the officer was responding to an in-progress robbery call, police said.
According to officials, the robbery in progress call was at an ATM in a shopping center, but before the officer made it there, he crashed into another car.
Police said two people in that second vehicle died at the scene.
The officer was taken to a hospital. He has since been released.
Over two hours into the investigation, police said another person was found in the backseat of the patrol car.
