A man identified as Andy Canas was found with a fatal gunshot wound in a city park restroom in Agua Dulce on Thursday afternoon.
Nueces County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division investigators arrived at the scene at about 12:40 p.m. after receiving the call.
Andy Canas was found in the bathroom, but no suspect or weapon have yet been identified.
“We really are trying to determine whether or not it was self inflicted or whether it’s a homicide. Right now, that’s still part of the investigation,” said Nueces County Sherriff’s Office Patrol Operations Captain Roland Martinez Jr.
Martinez said while there’s still a lot of evidence to comb through, something like this is rare in a quiet town like Agua Dulce.
“Some passerby’s here using the facility just to stop and use the restroom their from a neighboring county and when the adult female made the discovery that’s when she called the police, she was just here to use the restroom,” he said.
Authorities are investigating the shooting as a homicide.
Ruben Flores lives down the street from the park. He said while his neighborhood is is quite for the most part, he tends to avoid the park.
“I see some guys just there prowling around the restrooms. They have backpacks, I don’t know if they stay there or what,” he said.
The Agua Dulce City Marshals and Nueces County Pct. 5 Constables are also helping in the investigation.
