A 42 year old woman identified as Alisha Spence was killed in an apparent hit-and-run crash in south Columbus on Christmas.
Police said a body was found at Fairwood Avenue and Smith Road around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.
The person was pronounced dead at 7:52 a.m.
Police said the woman, identified as Alisha Spence, was walking when she was hit by a car.
The driver of the car was also an adult and detectives believe the crash happened on Christmas.
Joseph Clark, Jr. has lived in his house nearby for 20 years and told 10TV’s Lacey Crisp that he has seen many crashes on his street.
“The thing we are concerned about is there are no sidewalks in this community. There are stores on both ends of Fairwood [Avenue] and the people have to walk on the side of the road. It brings a lot of close encounters with pedestrians and vehicles,” Clark said.
Clark says he’s always been concerned with the amount of crashes
“We have cars going up and down the street very fast. They race down the street to the factory down there, there is a strip. They do a lot of racing,” Clark said.
Clark said he hopes the city can take a look at the stretch of road to make safety improvements.
“I would ask the city to think about putting sidewalks out here as well as more lighting,” Clark said.
Columbus police have not released the names of those involved, nor have they said if any charges will be filed. The incident remains under investigation.
