Career
Alina Baraz began her music career after discovering Danish electronic producer Galimatias‘ music online.
In 2013, she wrote lyrics to one of his instrumentals titled “Drift” and released it on SoundCloud.
The track caught Galimatias’ attention and he decided to work with her on more music.
In January 2015, the pair collaborated on an EP, Urban Flora, through Facebook, sending each other the music. They didn’t meet in person until February 2015, when the project was already complete.
Alongside “Drift“, the songs “Pretty Thoughts“, “Make You Feel” and “Fantasy” were released individually prior to Urban Flora.
Although the EP was originally released on SoundCloud, it was licensed to Ultra Music and released as a commercial release on May 19, 2015.
As soon as the album was released, urban Flora received positive reviews and peaked at number 111 on the US Billboard 200 and number 2 on the US Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart.
After the release of the EP on September 9, 2015, Baraz and Galimatias staged a brief tour in support of Urban Flora.
With the release of Urban Flora’s vinyl edition by independent label Mom + Pop Music in August 2016, Baraz signed an exclusive record deal.
She released her first solo EP The Color of You and a music video for the track “I Don’t Even Know Why Though” on April 6, 2018.
In September 2019 Baraz released the single, “To Me“.
In January 2020, Baraz released the standalone single “Trust”, which was followed by the singles “Morocco” and “More Than Enough” in February and March respectively.
