A shocking case has emerged in New Mexico involving a 19-year-old woman named Alexee Trevizo.
She recently admitted to giving birth to a baby boy and placing him in a trashcan, where he tragically lost his life. The incident came to light when Trevizo sought medical attention at a hospital for back pain.
The events surrounding this heartbreaking incident have left many people bewildered and concerned.
Let’s delve into what we know about Alexee Trevizo and the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
The Hospital Visit and Discovery
On January 27, Alexee Trevizo visited the hospital due to severe back pain.
However, medical tests conducted at the hospital revealed that she was pregnant and in labor.
Troublingly, after the diagnosis, she locked herself in a hospital bathroom for an extended period. Concerned hospital staff became alarmed when a cleaner discovered the bathroom covered in blood and immediately alerted the nurses.
They discovered a heavy trash bag and, upon lifting it, found a deceased baby inside.
The Revealing Bodycam Footage
Recently released police bodycam footage sheds light on the incident.
In the footage, a doctor, donning a white lab coat, can be seen explaining the circumstances to the police officer, Alexee Trevizo, and her mother.
Trevizo is lying on a hospital bed while her mother sits at her feet. She tearfully admits, “It came out of me, I put it in the bag. In the trash bag. I’m sorry, mom.”
The doctor responds by informing Trevizo’s mother that their immediate concern is her daughter’s health.
The doctor explains that it is vital to determine if Trevizo has delivered the placenta and emphasizes that she is bleeding significantly.
The doctor then reveals that they must involve the police due to the baby’s discovery and Trevizo’s attempt to conceal the birth.
The doctor assures the family that the situation will be handled transparently, including an autopsy of the baby and involvement of investigators.
Trevizo’s Emotional Response
Overwhelmed with grief and fear, Alexee Trevizo repeats that the baby made no noise upon birth.
She becomes increasingly distraught, bursting into tears upon learning that detectives are on their way to speak with her and that she is under police custody at the hospital.
The Aftermath and Legal Proceedings
Following the incident, investigators stated that Alexee Trevizo locked herself in the hospital bathroom on January 27, gave birth to the baby boy, and subsequently placed him in the trash can.
Unfortunately, by the time the baby was discovered, he had already passed away, and Trevizo had left the hospital.
In March, an autopsy concluded that the baby’s cause of death was homicide. Consequently, on May 10, police charged and arrested Trevizo for first-degree murder.
However, she has since been released from jail and will be allowed to finish the school year without an ankle monitor or house arrest while awaiting trial.
This deeply distressing case has brought attention to the importance of providing support to young individuals facing unexpected pregnancies.
It also underscores the need for comprehensive education and resources to help young people navigate such challenging circumstances.
As the legal proceedings progress, it remains to be seen how this tragic incident will unfold and what lessons can be learned from it.
The loss of a young life is always a devastating event, and our thoughts are with the family and all those affected by this heartbreaking situation.
