Lawyer and Spokesperson for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2020 presidential election petition before the Supreme Court, Frank Davies has resorted to carrying his own bag after his use of a military man as bag carrier met with huge public criticism.
A picture of him with a military man following him and carrying his bag went viral on social media, and attracted heavy public criticism.
The first criticism came for outspoken Political Scientist, Prof. Ranford Gyampo, who wrote in a Facebook post that “it is not the duty of any soldier to be carrying the bag of any private legal practitioner to court. Defending the territorial integrity of any country does not include body-guarding civilian appointees.
He said such gestures demoralize the police and cause their public disrespect, adding that if the police are deemed to be too weak to provide security for government appointees and private people, the way to go is to strengthen them and check how recruitments are made into the police
Prof. Gyampo stated that the attempt to turn soldiers into errand boys of civilian appointees, private citizens and ‘small boy magicians’ parading as pastors, should be a monumental shame to any professional Army Commander whose appointment was based on meritocracy.
“We have no business ‘civilianizing’ our soldiers. It would come back to haunt us,” he warned.
The sentiments of Prof. Gyampo was shared by many who took to various social media platforms to air their misgivings.
Following the wide criticism, a subsequent picture of Frank Davies has emerged; this time with him carrying his own bag without the help or company of any security officer.
Unlike the initial image in which the legal practitioner had only his wig in his hand, the second image has his hands full as he is seen carrying the bag in his right hand and wig and some documents in his left hand.
