The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, HE. John Dramani Mahama has alleged that President Nana Akufo Addo has turned a blind eye to all the NPP members enjoying the small-scale mining operations (popularly known as galamsey) in Ghana and is making non-party members starve.
He made this statement whiles addressing the people of Odum-Banso in the Western Region of Ghana during his Western Regional tour ahead of the 2020 presidential elections.
According to John Dramani Mahama, only party faithful of the NPP is enjoying small-scale mining even after the president promised to clamp down on illegal mining operations in the country. He noted that the act was very wrong and unfair to legit small-scale mining operators in the country.
“The Akufo-Addo government has allowed his party members to benefit from small scale-mining and has stopped people who are not affiliated to the NPP party to starve,” he said.
He promised to grant amnesty to all the arrested galamsey operators in the custody of the police once elected into office because he believes they are remorseful of their acts.
