AFCON DAILY: Senegal,Ivory Coast Record Big Wins To Seal Quaification

Senegal and Ivory Coast have qualified for the Round of 16 after Impressive wins in their final group games.

The Teranga Lions of Senegal and the Elephants of La Cotè D’Ivoire recorded big wins in their final games to seal qualification to the next round of the 2019 AFCON.

The Elephants needed a win against Namibia after Friday’s loss to Morocco delayed qualification a bit.

They made a few changes to the line u with Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha starting his first game at this year’s tournament.

The winger lived up to expectation as he produced a stellar performance for the Ivorians.

They took a 1-0 lead in the first half after Max Gradel gave them the lead with a right footed effort from an acute angle in the 37th minute.

The goal spurred them on as they ended the half on a high.

The Elephants began the second half the way they ended the first, pressuring the Namibians in search of the all important second goal.

That however didn’t take too long as Serey Die scored in the 58th minute to give the Ivorians some security.

The Namibians pulled one back but late goals from Wilfried Zaha and Maxwell Cornet sealed the win for the Elephants.

In the other group D game, Morocco left it late as they beat South Africa 1-0 to continue their 100% record at this year’s tournament.

In Group C, Sadio Mane came back from missing a penalty in the first half to score a brace against Kenya which helped Senegal seal qualification.

The Liverpool winger had his effort saved in the latter stages of the first half before he came back to score the second and third of Senegal’s goals with the last being another penalty.

Algeria defeated Tanzania 3-0 in their final group C game in order to keep their 100% record and clean sweep of Group C intact.

Later today, the Black Stars of Ghana face off with Guinea Bissau in a crucial encounter for the Stars.
