Marriage, in earlier times, was seen as a lifelong union between a couple and their families. Couples almost had no choice than to stay together. In recent times however, there has been an obvious decline in long lasting marriages and a surge in divorces.
This is even more prevalent among stakeholders of entertainment industries worldwide e.g. Actors and Musicians. It’s almost impossible for them to stay in long marriages, partly because of the fame and the mindset that there are options out there for them.
One couple that is beating the odds is multiple award-winning Nollywood Actress, Singer, Activist and Philanthropist Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and her husband, Captain Matthew Ekeinde.
The pair got married in 1996, when the actress was only eighteen (18) years old. This was just a year after the actress’ debut in the Nigerian Movie Industry. Five years later, the couple had a westernized ceremony (white wedding) aboard a Dash 7 aircraft flying from Lagos to Benin, in the presence of some close family members and friends.
The unproblematic and private couple has been able to keep their lives private, while occasionally showing the world what they choose to show. The most insight into their lives was shown on the actress’ Reality TV Show, “Omotola: The Real Me” on Africa Magic, a subsidiary broadcast on DSTV, where part of their family lives were shown.
To the best of the public’s knowledge, the couple has a marriage devoid of scandals and unnecessary displays of affection on social media. Like any other couple, they have at points in time shown their affection on social media but it has been tastefully done without doing it in an annoying or attention seeking manner.
It’s safe to say the pair’s union is the epitome of a blissful marriage, at least on the face of it. The couple has four children together.
