Five people were killed after a plane crashed into a car shortly after taking off from Mesa’s Falcon Field Airport on Tuesday afternoon.
Flames and smoke billowed from the crash at the airport near Greenfield and McKellips Roads around 4:40 p.m. on Nov. 5.
“Our community suffered a tragic loss this afternoon. We had a plane that took off from Falon Field Airport in Mesa and upon take off, it crashed into a single vehicle on Greenfield Road,” said Mesa Fire and Medical Department’s spokesperson Marrisa Ramirez-Ramos.
A pilot, co-pilot and three passengers were on board the plane at the time of the crash.
Four of them did not survive. They were identified as 48-year-old Rustin Randall, 44-year-old Drew Kimball, 43-year-old Spencer Lindahl and 12-year-old Graham Kimball. The fifth person on the plane survived and remains hospitalized.
The driver of the car that was crashed into also died. They were not identified.
The NTSB is investigating the cause of the crash.
Police say Greenfield Road is closed in both directions from McKellips to McDowell.
