Zahrie Walls, a 27-year-old hairstylist from Chicago, died Saturday evening after falling off a boat near Navy Pier.
The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on the 600 block of East Grand Avenue. According to authorities, emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving calls about a possible drowning.
Witnesses say Zahrie fell into the water unexpectedly. Rescue teams pulled her from the lake and rushed her to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, but despite their efforts, she later passed away.
Police have not yet confirmed what caused her to fall, and the situation is still under investigation.
