One person is dead, and another person has been transported to the hospital following a shooting in Brandon.

The incident occurred around 6:51 p.m. on Monday near the McDonald’s at 132 Stribling Ln.

Brandon Police Chief Joseph French said officers arrived on the scene to find one person had been killed by an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was identified as 25-year-old Kianna Jackson on Tuesday by Rankin County Coroner David Ruth.

A second person identified as the suspect was also found, having sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Aid was rendered, and the suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

French says the incident appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The matter remains under investigation.
