LAFAYETTE, La. — Kyaria Arceneaux, 22, has died by suicide. The news of her passing was confirmed by her mother on Facebook and later acknowledged by her football team.
Arceneaux had recently celebrated her 22nd birthday, sharing a video of herself singing Happy Birthday in a car. Days later, her life was cut short.
Before her passing, Arceneaux reportedly left letters for her siblings.
Her mother, Kiane Arceneaux, shared the heartbreaking update in a Facebook post, writing:
“Losing my baby girl is one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced… I never thought I’d be planning a funeral for my baby girl Kyaria Elizabeth Rochelle Arceneaux. Moma loved you so much baby.”
Arceneaux served in the military, attended Northside High School in Lafayette, and was originally from Crowley, Louisiana.
She also played for the Acadiana Zydeco Spice Women’s Tackle Football team, which released a statement:
“Kyaria was more than a player on the field — she was a spark of energy, a smile that lifted spirits, and a teammate who embodied strength, joy, and passion for the game… She will forever be part of the Zydeco Spice legacy. Once a Spice, always a Spice. Forever #12.”
