CHICAGO — A 20-year-old woman has been shot and killed on the South Side of Chicago following what police believe was a fight with a man on Friday night, June 27.
The woman, identified as Kayla Dadon, was found lying unresponsive on the sidewalk near 54th Street and Prairie Avenue with a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency responders arrived on the scene at about 9:52 p.m., but Kayla was pronounced dead on arrival.
Earlier that night, around 9:38 p.m., police had received a different 911 call from someone claiming their friend had been shot near 53rd and Indiana. Officers searched that location but found no victim, no signs of a shooting, and no witnesses at the time.
Just minutes later, another caller reported a woman bleeding and not moving on a sidewalk one block over. That’s where police found Kayla.
According to a witness, Kayla had been seen arguing or physically fighting with a man shortly before the shooting. The suspect is described as a Black male around 25 years old, approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall, wearing gray pants and a white T-shirt. The witness said the man fired one shot and ran off.
Police recovered one shell casing and a can of pepper spray next to Kayla’s body.
The investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made yet.
