A 19-year-old Pontiac woman identified as Shyanne Marie lost her life in a crash on the Southfield Freeway.
According to a statement on X; Michigan State Police Second District said The Detroit Regional Communication Center was notified of a rollover crash on the southbound side of the freeway near Joy Road on Saturday, November 16th, around 4:50 a.m.
State Police said preliminary investigation revealed a 39-year-old Dearborn man lost control of his Ford van while “driving at a high rate of speed.” The van rolled onto its side and struck a Ford Fusion in the right lane.
19-year-old Shyanne Marie was partially thrown from the vehicle.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police said the driver and two other passengers in the van were rushed to the hospital where they’re undergoing treatment. The driver of the Ford Fusion also taken to the hospital “for medical attention.” No information was given on their conditions.
The freeway closed down for the investigation.
There’s no word if the Dearborn man will face charges.
“This is another example of risky driving leading to a preventable traffic death,” First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said. “We are continuing to ask Michiganders to be more careful when they are behind the wheel. Slow down, buckle up, pay attention. Your passengers’ lives are depending on it.”
