A 17-year-old girl from Massachusetts died in a crash in Shrewsbury, Vermont, on Sunday, officials say.
At 4:06 a.m., troopers were notified about a crash on Cold River Road near Upper Cold River Road, according to a statement from Vermont State Police.
An investigation determined that Macy Piersiak of Needham failed to stay in her lane while traveling south on Cold River Road, crossing the centerlines, police said.
Piersiak’s vehicle then exited the roadway, hitting a guardrail and a tree “head on,” the statement said.
Piersiak, the vehicle’s only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, authorities said.
The crash remains under investigation.
“Every family friend, teammate, classmate, or any one of her many relatives felt a strong connection to Macy, who was wise beyond her years,” Piersiak’s obituary says. “She was a force to be reckoned with, a commanding presence who brought silliness and joy to us all, keeping us entertained and leaving us laughing even after she walked away.”
The family asks that donations be made to the Macy Piersiak KUA Scholarship Fund in her honor.
