Milwaukee police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened on Tuesday near Washington Park.

Family members said the victim is 17-year-old Jalerian McDade – and they are heartbroken.

Surveillance video caught the aftermath of the fatal shooting that happened near 40th and Cherry around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Family members affectionately called McDade “Big Z.”

Neighbors revealed that the sounds of gunshots and screaming woke them up. Seconds after the shots, video showed people run back and forth from a white vehicle parked on the street.

Once on the scene, officers focused on the car, while others canvassed the block for evidence.

Police said they know who they are looking for, and family members also revealed they know who the shooter is.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said on Tuesday the killing is part of a bigger issue.

“It’s a time to pause and reflect and think about what it is that we’re doing,” Johnson said.

“Why do our children have access to firearms? Understand the responsibility for all of us in regards to ensuring that those type of weapons of danger are not accessible to our young ones,” Norman said.
