AFCON competition will kick off in Gabon on Saturday as the group pairings have already been done.
Many football fans are looking forward to the country that will take the trophy home. Others are looking forward to having the best of entertainment through the footballers’ performances.
Whichever one it is, there are many well-known faces in UEFA that will be appearing at AFCON 2017 too. This is because these ‘European’ players are, first of all, African. Here they are, in no particular order:
Elneny plays for Arsenal. He is with his national football team, The Pharaohs of Egypt.
Partey plays for Atletico in Europe. As a Ghanaian he is among the Black Stars’ squad.
Aubameyang is a Dortmund player in Europe. In Africa, his national team is The Panthers of Gabon.
Lemina plays for Juventus. Watch out for him in the Gabonese team at AFCON.
Mahrez is a Leicester player. He will appear for Algeria, his home country.
Dirar plays for Monaco. On January 16, he will play with his home country, Morocco, as they go against DR Congo.
In Europe, Koulibaly plays for Napoli. He is Senegalese and will be appearing at AFCON with them.
Aurier plays for the European club, Paris Saint-Germain. He will appear at AFCON with the Elephants of Ivory Coast.
Traore is an Ajax player. He also plays for the Burkina Faso national football team.
Aboubakar plays for Besiktas. At AFCON he will play for his national team, The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
